Polaroids

Let’s just face it. We live in a digital world. Our movies are digital, we stream music instead of listening to a physical cd, and the way we take and observe photos is usually through a screen. Hell about 90% of the photos I take are with some form of a digital camera, whether it be my dslr or my iPhone. But that’s not to say I don’t love the look and feel of film. I actually own Nikon F100 film slr that I’ve run a few rolls through. But ultimately my current form of film to shoot is polaroids.
Funny story about my polaroid camera is I got it for free. I was cleaning out my parents’ garage one day and found it stashed back in some old locker and fortunately it still worked!!! The thing I love about it is it gives a different feel to all the other photos from a set. It also can lend a different perspective and change your thinking process mid shoot. And with the resurgence of instant film it’s great that I can just run into Best Buy and pick up new packs and there’s no dark room or sending your rolls off to a lab to be developed involved.
Recently I finally started scanning and archiving all of the polaroids I’ve taken as of late so I thought I would share some of my favorites in a single blog post. So without further ado…

sometimes taking a pic of a polaroid on your phone is a great way to past time while you wait for your model to change. lol

Hailey Beth pt 2

Back again with another photo set! For this set with Hailey I’m going to go ahead and smoosh two outfits into one posts. Literally from day to night. For the first outfit Hailey had a Yellow bikini that I just knew had to be shot out on the balcony of the apartment. Which is a testament to the bipolarness of Houston weather considering this was like winter time.

You’d literally have no idea it was winter lol

As the day transitioned to night time, and the rain started coming down we moved inside. and with that Hailey changed into a more indoorsy look. And per common theme with my work there’s quite a bit of reflections in this set as there was a huge mirror in the apartment… which I had no choice but to use.

I wasn’t kidding when I said it was a huge mirror

Hailey Beth Pt.1

I decided to break up this photo set with Hailey just for the sake of saving you guys from endlessly scrolling lol. As previously mentioned in my post with Stevie, she came to Houston with Hailey. So if some of the background seems familiar… it’s because it’s the same apartment. I think it just shows how different of shots you can get in the same place.
I’m no stranger to shooting with Hailey and having shot together a few times now I think we both now how to work together to get images we both love. Or at least I love them. And it’s always easy going and fun to shoot with her.

Moonchildrose pt3 (finale)

We finally find ourselves at the last post for this series with Quyhn. I can’t thank Quyhn enough for shooting with me and being such an awesome subject. And a huge thank you to those who follow my work and have interacted and left your thoughts. And I look forward to creating more content through out the year and onward.
For the last look we once again kept it pretty simple. But thanks to Quyhn’s awesome ability to pose and move naturally we made some pretty epic photos. Honestly some of my favorite that I’ve made… period.

MoonchildRose pt.2

Continuing with at least one new post a week, I give you another look with the gorgeous Quyhn! We were fortunate to have the use of a kitchen with a lot of natural light. So she brought a white outfit that flowed perfectly with the setting. I’ve probably said it a thousand times but I am a huge fan of simplicity, so when she showed me the outfit I knew it was going to work out perfectly! And of course now Valentines day has come and gone, but this is only the second look of three that I’ll be sharing from our shoot. And I also had two other shoots leading up to Valentines Day. So with that said I hope you’re enjoying the content so far and I’m looking forward to creating even more content in the future!

I can’t state enough just how much I love natural light. Of course there are times when you have to for lack of a better term create your light. But when it’s there… use it! And luckily where we shot had plenty of natural light coming in form big windows, and had bright cabinets and counter tops that bounced and reflected the light beautifully.

Be well and hope to hear some feedback as well. Don’t be a stranger.

MoonchildRose pt.1

It’s been a while! After a bit of a hiatus or break or whatever you want to call it, I have decided to try to keep this page updated a little more often. Recently I’ve begun shooting again, and usually what follows is the thought of what to do with the images once they’re done so… let’s post them here! Between work and having classes I can’t promise non stop new material, but in-between new sets I can post some older sets I don’t really have shared anywhere except Instagram. I will try my best to do at least a post per week.
Since that’s now been established let’s start off with one of my first shoots to start the year of 2019! It’s always awesome seeing old friends again. Especially those you haven’t seen in a few years. One such person is Quyhn @ _moonchildrose_ on IG. We first shot together years ago and made some awesome photos!
I’ve never been an overly complicated person, especially when it comes to photography. So we came up with some simple outfit ideas to shoot. Nothing too fancy, but the end results were great.

Quyhn definitely embraced her inner big cat lol. It’s always great to shoot with someone who uses every inch of their environment during a shoot.

I’ll end this post here, but it’s definitely to be continued. This was one of three outfits I’d wish to share with you. So stay tuned!

New York sights

Not too long ago I got the great chance to visit New York City around Thanksgiving time. Nothing really compares to that nervous, almost anxious feeling you get when your plane is coming in on the runway and you were fortunate enough to snag a window seat so you can watch that iconic skyline appear in your window as the plane begins it's descent. As soon as you feel the wheels touch and you hear the applause from your fellow passengers for the pilot not killing everyone upon landing is when you know you've officially arrived in New York. Not only did I bring my D800 on this trip, but I also rented a fuji x100s form lensrentals.com as I knew I wanted something small rand lighter to just walk around with. Being form Houston New York City in late November is definitely not something I'm use to weather wise. I think each day there it was a cool 30 degrees and windy. But that didn't detract from the trip at all.
